Mediterranean Shipping Company MSC

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is owned by Italy's Aponte family. Its subsidiary, Port of Hamburg Beteiligungsgesellschaft, has won approval to take a 49.9% stake in German terminal operator group Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA).

The world's shipping industry has called on the United Nations to provide military protection for vessels operating in the Middle East after the latest seizure of a container ship by Iran, although much commercial traffic between Asia and Europe has already been re-routed around Africa.

Global trade is suffering a major setback from missile attacks in the Red Sea, where 10% of the world's seaborne trade passes through.
